Camden County NAACP Branch #2080 President Kevin Barfield
Kevin Barfield currently serves as President of Camden County NAACP Branch # 2080 since January 1, 2019. He has served on Camden City District Parent Advisory Councils for 15 years implementing, assessing policies and programs to better serve parents and students.
He currently serves on Camden County Juvenile Justice Parent Advisory Group and Family Organization assisting in changing the probation systems to better serve families. Mr. Barfield advocated for alternative placement improving resources and support to families.
Previously he spent time mentoring young adults with What About Youth (W.A.Y.) National Stop the Violence Alliance, Inc,. This organization prepares youth for college and exposes them international experiences. He has also supported C.A.N. Drug Free Community & Violence Prevention Coalition, an organization which offered workshops and training on preventive measures on new drugs, underage drinking, and prescription drugs campaigns. Mr. Barfield also served on South Jersey Perinatal Cooperative- Camden Healthy Start Fatherhood Committee where the mission is to help fathers understand the importance of prenatal care and to help eliminate barriers that keep men from being involved with their families.
His commitment to preventive measures and understanding the various systems that disproportionately affect black and brown people has motivated him to continue his advocacy for complete transparency and accountability. Policy and training is good, but it seldom resolves complicit bias and systemic racism. CCNJ NAACP’s involvement in conversations such as this speaks to their goal to educate, empower, and change communities (countywide) and is vital to building a society in which all individuals have equal rights.
