Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo reported that an armed suspect shot by Camden County Police on 1/11/17 has been charged with attempted murder and other offenses.
Jose A. Fernandez-Ventura, 38, of Camden has been charged with the attempted murder of the female victim, aggravated assault by pointing a firearm at the female victim, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
On Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at approximately 11:31 am, Camden County Police responded to a 911 call in the 2700 block of Federal Street for a report of a domestic violence incident. Responding officers entered the stairwell and proceeded to the second floor apartment and observed a 1 ½ year-old child at the top of the stairs. The female victim was seated on the sofa holding an 8-month-old child in her lap. The armed male suspect, later identified as Jose A. Fernandez-Ventura, pointed a firearm at the female victim and the infant. Fernandez-Ventura then fired his weapon at the female victim and infant at close range.
Both the victim and the suspect remain hospitalized at Cooper Medical Center.
