The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and Camden County Police Department reported that 32-year-old Brandon Beverly, of Westville, and 22-year-old Jalen Carr, of Sicklerville, were indicted by a Camden County Grand Jury for the kidnapping and murder of Curtis Jenkins III.

Both Beverly and Carr were indicted for Felony Murder, Kidnapping, Armed Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Kidnapping and Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery as well as numerous weapons charges. Brandon Beverly was also charged with Knowing and Purposeful Murder.

This investigation began on June 30, 2019, when Curtis Jenkins III, 20, was reported missing after failing to return from making a food delivery in the Fairview section of Camden at approximately 11 pm.  Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Jersey State Police, worked with the Camden County Police Department and the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office in an effort to locate Curtis Jenkins III.  He was found deceased inside a garage located on the 1100 block of Liberty Street in Camden on July 2, 2019, at approximately 10 pm.  The Gloucester/Camden/Salem Medical Examiner determined the cause of his death to be Asphyxia and ruled the manner of his death a Homicide.

Brandon Beverly was arrested on July 2, 2019, and Jalen Carr was arrested on July 5, 2019. Both were ordered detained in the Camden County Correctional Facility pending further court proceedings.

Pursuant to Rule 3.6 of the New Jersey Rules of Professional Conduct, The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office cannot make statements outside of the courtroom that may prejudice the defendants’ right to a fair trial. We therefore will not be releasing further information or making additional comments.

All persons charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
