Cahlil Felix, 23, of Pennsauken and Kelly Joyner-Stewart, 23, of Philadelphia, were charged in connection with a shooting that killed Jovany Torres.
Camden County Police responded to the area of 27th and Berkley Streets on October 6, 2018, at approximately 12:41 p.m. for a report of a man who had been shot. When officers arrived, they found Jovany Torres suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Cooper University Hospital where he died a short time later.
During the investigation, detectives obtained surveillance video of a vehicle that was used to transport the suspects to and from the homicide. Detectives were then able to identify the alleged suspects in the vehicle as Cahlil Felix and Kelly Joyner-Stewart.
On November 2, 2018, Cahlil Felix and Kelly Joyner-Stewart were charged with first degree Murder, according to the Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson. Felix and Joyner-Stewart were also charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder.
Kelly Joyner-Stewart is currently being held in a New Jersey State Correctional Facility.
Cahlil Felix was arrested last night in Cherry Hill without incident and was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a pretrial detention hearing. Under Criminal Justice Reform rules, the court may order he be detained or released with conditions.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
