Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson reported a teenage homicide suspect will be tried as an adult.
Fernando Rivera, 19, of Camden, appeared in court today on a felony murder charge and had his case waived from juvenile court to adult court. He was arraigned this afternoon and his bail was set at $1 million.
Rivera and a co-defendant, 24-year-old Wilbert Shiveley of Camden, are accused of killing William Custis IV in the course of a robbery shortly before noon on August 11, 2013.
Custis, a 19-year-old Camden resident, was found fatally shot in the driver’s seat of a 1986 Honda Civic that crashed into a fence in the area of Louis Street and Atlantic Avenue in Camden.
Rivera, who was 17 at the time of the crime, and Shiveley are alleged to have been passengers in Custis’ car when it crashed.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
Released Friday, July 10, 2015.
