Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk and Pine Hill Police Chief Chris Winters reported a homicide in the borough Monday morning.
Michael Cogan, M/26, of Pine Hill, was stabbed to death about 4:50 a.m. Monday in the 2600 building of The Greens at Pine Hill.
A 29-year-old Philadelphia man, Stefan Curry-Burkett, was arrested near the scene on Blackwood- Clementon Road near The Birches Apartments. Curry-Burkett is charged with Murder and Felony Murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. before Superior Court Judge Lee Solomon in Courtroom 36 of the Hall of Justice in Camden.
Curry-Burkett is accused of breaking into the victim’s apartment by climbing onto a balcony and entering through a sliding glass door. In the apartment he assaulted Cogan and stabbed him repeatedly. Cogan was in a relationship with Curry-Burkett’s estranged wife and was targeted by the suspect.
Prosecutor Faulk and Chief Winters credited the swift arrest to a fast response from Clementon and Lindenwold police, who were called to assist Pine Hill officers. A Clementon police officer spotted Curry-Burkett running from The Greens at Pine Hill shortly after the stabbing was reported and detained the fleeing man.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
