Camden, N.J. – A homicide investigation is underway in Camden after a 21-year-old man was fatally shot early Thursday, according to Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill S. Mayer and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.

Officers responded to the 1700 block of S. 7th Street for a ShotSpotter activation shortly before 2 a.m. on Feb. 4. When they got to the area, they located one victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after. The victim was identified as Alex Fernandez, 21, of Philadelphia.

A team of detectives are actively investigating the events that led to the shooting.
