Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo reported a non-fatal police-involved shooting in Camden City on Sunday morning, December 3, 2017 at approximately 3:40 am.

Preliminary investigation indicates that while in the area of Louis and Chestnut Streets, Camden County Metro police officers heard gunfire.   The officers spoke to a witness who told them the shooter’s direction of travel.  The officers continued on Louis Street and then onto Sycamore Street where they encountered the shooter, Shlawrence Unique Ross, 37, of Camden.  Mr. Ross was shot while exchanging gunfire with the officers.

Mr. Ross was transported to Cooper University Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. The Officers were not injured and have been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation. The Officers’ identities will not be released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.

When a municipal police officer is involved in a shooting, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office conducts an investigation into the incident, as required by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office guidelines.  The local police department is not involved in the investigation.
