Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson reported a woman has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of her daughter.
Lucy Gunter, 20, of Camden, was charged with one count of second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child for failing to seek medical attention for signs of injuries to her four-year-old daughter.
On Tuesday, July 18, 2017 police and paramedics responded to the 1400 block of South 9th Street in Camden City for a 9-1-1 call that was made at approximately 8:15 a.m. When the EMTs arrived, they found the victim unresponsive with injuries to her face. She was transported by ambulance to Cooper University Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased at approximately 8:58 a.m. on July 18, 2017.
Gunter was remanded to Camden County Jail pending the pretrial detention hearing set for Friday, July 21, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. before the Honorable Judge Edward McBride in courtroom 36 in accordance with the New Jersey Bail Reform. Under the recent Criminal Justice Reform rules, the court may order the mother be detained without bail or released with conditions.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing, no other information will be given out at this time.
All persons charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
