Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Winslow Police Chief Robert Stimelski reported a missing Winslow man has been located.

James Wharton, 61, was found alive around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in a densely wooded area in the township’s Albion section.

Wharton called 911 on Tuesday morning to report he had become lost in the woods after leaving a friend’s residence in the area of Berlin-Cross Keys Road and Sharp Avenue in Winslow. Police had not had contact with him since then.

Wharton was located by a cilivian volunteer who was assisting with the search. He was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The Prosecutor’s Office and Winslow Police were assisted in the search by numerous agencies, including the New Jersey State Police, Camden County Office of Emergency Management, Winslow Fire Department and other local fire departments, NJDEP State Forestry Services and NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife.
