Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk and Merchantville Police Chief Wayne Bauer reported a double stabbing Wednesday night that left a mother dead and her daughter seriously injured.

Suzanne Durocher, F/50, and her daughter Kristen Durocher, F/22, were both stabbed multiple times about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in their home on the 100 block of Prospect Street in Merchantville. Suzanne Durocher died from her injuries. Kristen Durocher is in stable at Cooper Hospital as of Thursday morning.

Gilbert Villanueva, M/26, was admitted to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden shortly before 11:30 p.m. to be treated for injuries to his hands consistent with knife wounds. Authorities were notified by hospital staff of Villanueva’s suspicious injuries and connected him with the Merchantville stabbing. He was charged Thursday with Felony Murder, Attempted Murder, Purposeful and Knowing Murder and 2nd Degree Burglary.

It is alleged Villanueva entered the Durocher’s house on Prospect Street Wednesday night and Suzanne Durocher tried to stop him. He is accused of stabbing her, and then stabbing Kristen Durocher.

Villanueva will be arraigned this afternoon in courtroom 56 in Camden County Superior Court. The specific time will be announced shortly.

All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
