Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk reported a man accused of firing at police in Camden is in stable condition and will be held in custody after being wounded by officers returning fire.
Four Camden County police officers responded to 7th and Sycamore streets in Camden at 9:52 p.m. after receiving a report of a man with a gun in Chestnut Court. Upon their arrival, the officers were confronted by James Dickerson, M/28, of Camden, who is accused of drawing a weapon and firing several shots at the officers. The four officers returned fire, striking Dickerson once in the leg.
Dickerson is in stable condition at Cooper Hospital. He is charged with four counts of Attempted Murder and weapons offenses and will be transferred to the Camden County Jail when he is medically cleared.
The shooting is being reviewed by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes and Special Prosecutions units.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
