Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo reported a Willingboro man was sentenced Friday to 30 years in prison for a series of robberies and carjackings.
Zedrick T. Johnson, M/36, pleaded guilty in July to two counts of Robbery and three counts of Carjacking. He will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
The crimes happened in several Camden County towns within the span of a week in February 2013.
The spree began when Johnson robbed the Gulf gas station on the 700 block of Route 130 in Collingwood around 5:45 p.m. February 15, 2013. During the robbery, he stabbed a gas station attendant in the hand with a knife.
Next, Johnson robbed the Betsey Ross Truck Stop on the 9300 block of Route 130 in Pennsauken around 2:40 p.m. February 17, 2013. In that incident, he held sharp object believed to be a box knife to the back of a truck stop employee’s neck.
Johnson later committed a carjacking on the 7100 block of Airport Highway in Pennsauken shortly before 3:50 p.m. February 18, 2013. During the carjacking, he forced the victim out of her SUV while the vehicle was moving.
Finally, Johnson carried out a series of crimes in the same day beginning in the parking lot at Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden around 5 p.m. February 20, 2013. There Johnson approached a hospital employee who had finished her shift and demanded the keys to her vehicle, but she refused.
At that time, a hospital bus pulled up and Johnson walked away from the woman. The bus driver radioed hospital security to ask for assistance and a security vehicle began to follow Johnson.
Shortly thereafter, Johnson got into a woman’s van stopped at light at the intersection of the White Horse Pike and Haddon Avenue. He was armed with a knife and demanded she drive away.
The victim right turned onto Haddon Avenue drove into Collingswood then made a left onto Pacific Avenue. Johnson told the driver to stop, exited the van, approached the security vehicle and began slashing one of the rear tires.
Johnson then walked along the 100 block of Pacific Avenue where two adults were removing a child from their running SUV. The defendant got into their vehicle and fled the area.
He was arrested in Camden February 22, 2013.
Johnson’s criminal activities were not confined to Camden County.
Johnson pleaded guilty in June to a Murder charge for the killing of a gas station attendant in Burlington County. The victim, Bal Krishna Karki, M/46, was fatally beaten during a robbery at the Lukoil gas station at Route 130 and Charleston Road in Willingboro February 11, 2013.
