Shane Whipple, 27, of Berlin (Winslow Township) was charged with killing his aunt, Jennifer Whipple, whom he had been living with for more than a year.
Jennifer Whipple’s father called Winslow Township Police on January 27, 2018 and requested officers perform a well-being check on her at her residence in the Taylor Woods Apartment complex. The request came when Jennifer’s father had been unable to reach his daughter for almost two days after he spoke with her Thursday evening about a fight that occurred between her and Shane Whipple earlier that day.
When officers arrived at Jennifer Whipple’s apartment on Saturday evening, they located the victim on the floor of her bedroom with extensive trauma to her body and face. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
During the investigation, detectives learned that Shane Whipple had been inside of the victim’s apartment on Friday and left the apartment complex later that evening in his vehicle. He was located yesterday at approximately 12:13 p.m. near Route 70 and North Locust Street in Evesham Township by the Winslow Township and Evesham Township Police and taken into custody.
Shane Whipple was charged with first degree Murder on January 30, 2018, according to Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Winslow Township Police Chief George Smith.
Whipple was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a pretrial detention hearing. Under recent Criminal Justice Reform rules, the court may order he be detained or released with conditions.
All persons charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Released Tuesday, January 30, 2018.
