Camden, N.J. – A Camden man has been charged in connection with a July 2, 2021, homicide in Camden City, according to Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill S. Mayer and Camden County Metro Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.
Nasir Aaron, age 21, of Swedesboro, has been charged with one count of first-degree Murder in the homicide of Darrell Lopez, 31, of Camden. Aaron was arrested on July 7, 2021, shortly after 9:30 a.m. by the US Marshals NY/NJ Fugitive Task Force in Paulsboro.
On Friday, July 2, 2021, police responded to a multiple round shot spotter activation in the area of the 1100 block of Baring Street in Camden around 9:45 a.m. When police arrived, they located the victim, Darrell Lopez, 31, of Camden, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Lopez was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
A second victim, a 50-year-old, male, arrived a short time later at an area hospital seeking treatment for a gunshot wound.
Recovered video surveillance footage, and additional information gathered with the assistance of the Paulsboro Police Department, led to Aaron being charged. He is currently being detained at the Camden County Correctional Facility and is awaiting a pretrial detention hearing.
