Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Oaklyn Police Chief Mark Moore reported a man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run collision that injured an Oaklyn police officer.

The officer was struck by a motor vehicle in the intersection of the White Horse Pike and West Clinton Avenue in Oaklyn at approximately 10:40 a.m. today while directing traffic on a construction detail.

The driver, Leon A. Williams, 49, of Dacula, Georgia, fled the scene after striking the officer. Oaklyn Police stopped Williams on the White Horse Pike in Collingswood after the injured officer broadcast a description of the vehicle that struck her.

The officer was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden and was later released.

Williams was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, assault by auto and leaving an injured victim. He was remanded to the Camden County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
