Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo, Delaware River Port Authority Chief Jack Stief and Lindenwold Borough Police Chief Thomas Brennan reported that 60-year-old Shelton Shambry was charged today with fourth degree abuse and neglect for leaving a 22-month-old child, of whom he was the legal guardian, in a vehicle at the Lindenwold PATCO station on August 16, 2019.
At approximately 3:38 p.m., Camden County Central Communications received a 9-1-1 call in reference to a child inside of a van at the PATCO High Speed Line in Lindenwold. When the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) and Lindenwold Police arrived at the scene, they located the 22-month-old female unresponsive in her car seat with the passenger window broken. The baby was pronounced deceased at the scene at approximately 3:54 p.m.
The Gloucester/Camden/Salem County Medical Examiner ruled her manner of death to be accidental. After an extensive investigation, it was revealed that Shambry, who put the child in the vehicle just prior to 6:30 am that morning, forgot that the child was in the vehicle.
Shambry was charged on a summons and released pending future court proceedings.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
Released Monday, September 16, 2019.
