Camden County Prosecutor Warren E. Faulk reported a man accused of killing one child and seriously injuring another has been indicted.
A Grand Jury handed down the indictments against Osvaldo Rivera on August 28. They were returned and made public today. The 32-year-old Rivera is accused of killing a Camden 6-year-old on September 12, 2012 in the boy’s home. Rivera is also accused of stabbing the boy’s 12-year-old sister. It is alleged he was attempting to sexually assault the female child when the 6-year-old victim intervened to protect his sister. The 12-year-old had her throat slashed but thanks to her brother she was able to flee the house and run to a neighbor’s home. She survived her injuries. He is indicted on the following counts:
- Felony Murder, Aggravated Sexual Assault
- Felony Murder, Burglary
- Attempted Murder
- Aggravated Sexual Assault
- Aggravated Assault
- Terroristic Threats
- three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child
- two weapons offenses related to possession of a knife.
Rivera is being held in the Camden County Jail. He also faces indictment on counts of 1st degree Aggravated Sexual Assault and 3rd degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child in connection with the August 13, 2012, assault of a 2-year-old Camden boy. That attack is unrelated to the 6-year- old’s murder and he was indicted on those offenses several weeks ago.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
