David Zechmeister, 78, of Gibbsboro, Camden County NJ was charged with aggravated sexual assault for sexually assaulting the victim when he was between the ages of 10 -12 years old.

The victim, whose name will not be released, prompted an investigation when he disclosed to a pastor at Zechmeister’s church. The victim reported to police that David Zechmeister is alleged to have sexually assaulted him on multiple occasions between May of 1987 and May of 1990 in the basement and the cabin in the rear of Zechmeister’s property in Gibbsboro.  While these charges were pending, another victim came forward and reported to police that he also experienced sexual contact by Zechmeister when he was 12 years old on a date between August of 1990 to the fall of 1990. The victim told police this sexual contact is alleged to have occurred in the cabin at the rear of Zechmeister’s property.

David Zechmeister was charged on October 3, 2018, with first degree Aggravated Sexual Assault as a result of the initial investigation, according to the Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo. On October 12, 2018, he was additionally charged with second degree Sexual Assault.

David Zechmeister was arrested on October 3, 2018, at his residence without incident. Zechmeister is currently detained at the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a pretrial detention hearing.
