Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Cherry Hill Police Chief William Monaghan announced a Cherry Hill man convicted in a child porn case has received an aggregate sentence of 25 years in state prison.

Sylvester H. Chew, 67, was sentenced yesterday by Superior Court Judge Richard F. Wells on 66 total counts.  A jury in June convicted Chew of 37 counts for possession of child pornography, 13 counts for creating child pornography, 13 counts for invasion of privacy, two counts for criminal attempt to endanger the welfare of a child and one count for endangering the welfare of a child.

Chew used small cameras hidden in a bathroom and bedroom at his home to surreptitiously photograph or film a young girl, who was between 9 and 12 years old, while she was nude.  The crimes occurred between April 2008 and August 2011 when the victim was living at Chew’s home.

During the trial, Assistant Prosecutor Kelly Testa presented evidence and testimony showing Chew possessed hundreds of sexually explicit images and videos of the girl as well as other children.  Chew also attempted to solicit the girl to sleep in the nude and to pose nude with him for a photo shoot.

Chew was arrested at his home in August 2011 after another adult reported the crimes to the police.

Released Thursday, February 25, 2016.
