Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk and Camden Police Chief Scott Thomson reported charges have been filed in a nearly seven-year-old unsolved homicide in Camden.

Walter Blake, M/31, of Camden, was killed at Morton and Warsaw streets in Camden on Aug. 30, 2006. Another man, Lavar Dunlap, who was 27 at the time, was also struck by gunshots and was injured. Dunlap died in November 2006 in an unrelated homicide.

On Friday, March 8, 2013, Tayhe Jones, M/32, of Camden, was charged with Murder in connection with Blake’s shooting. Jones was already being held in a New Jersey state prison on an unrelated Aggravated Assault charge. He is expected to be arraigned before Superior Court Judge Thomas Brown on March 15, 2013 at 1:30 p.m.

Jones had been eyed as a person of interest by investigators since shortly after the killing, but it wasn’t until approximately two months ago they were able to develop new information about the shooting that allowed for charges to be filed.

It appears Blake was shot after being in a physical altercation with either Jones or an associate of Jones. Blake won that fight but was then shot by Jones.

All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
