On this first day of Child Abuse Prevention Month, we recognize the exceptional work of our Special Victims Unit (SVU) at the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office. SVU investigates and prosecutes crimes committed against children, which include sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, physical abuse, and neglect cases.
SVU works out of our Child Advocacy Center (CAC), located in the City of Camden. The CAC is a fully accredited Child Advocacy Center with National Children’s Alliance, following best practices in forensic interviewing of child victims. The CAC is a child-friendly setting for victims to receive specialized services. It is designed to respect privacy and encourage compassion to maximize the process of healing.
Child abuse is a community problem that no single agency, individual, or discipline has the necessary knowledge, skill, or resources to holistically provide the needed assistance to victims and their families. The CAC is a place where Law Enforcement, Child Protection Services, Victim Advocates, and Medical & Mental Health Professionals meet to coordinate multidisciplinary services to our victims and their families.
