On Tuesday, Elliot P. Nock, 34, of Camden, was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of 37-year-old Nelson Jackson. The life sentence, which is 75 years in the state of New Jersey, was imposed this morning by the Honorable Gwendolyn Blue, J.S.C. Nock is required to serve approximately 63 years and 9 months of the sentence before he is eligible for parole in 2081.
Nock was found guilty of murder and related weapons offenses on June 9, 2017, after a jury trial. At the trial, Assistant Prosecutor Peter Crawford presented evidence that Nock shot Jackson during an argument on the 800 block of Haddon Avenue in Camden around 6:00 pm, November 10, 2014. The victim succumbed to his injuries and died the same day at Cooper University Hospital.
A witness told detectives that Nock had been involved in a verbal argument with another individual when Jackson attempted to diffuse the situation. Nock pulled out a revolver and fired several shots at the victim, striking him five times. The defendant then left the area on foot. Jackson collapsed in the street a few houses away.
