Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson reported a Camden man has been sentenced to prison in a 2012 city homicide.

Julio E. Martinez, M/26, received a 28-year term of incarceration October 10 in the stabbing death of Sophia Ortiz, F/22, the mother of two of his children.

He pleaded guilty September 8 to Aggravated Manslaughter before Superior Court Judge John Kelley.

Under his plea, Martinez admitted he broke into Ortiz’s home on the 400 block of Boyd Street in Camden through a second-story window and kicked open a door to stab the victim May 25, 2012.  The attack followed numerous threats Martinez made against Ortiz.

Martinez must serve 85 percent of his prison term before he is eligible for parole.

Released: October 22, 2014
