Camden, N.J. – Detectives are investigating the beating death of a Camden man, according to Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill S. Mayer and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.

On Thursday, July 22, 2021, at 12:00 a.m., the victim, Eric Ortiz, 60, of Camden, waved down a New Jersey Transit bus in the area of Broadway and Pine Street and advised the driver he had been assaulted.  Mr. Ortiz was transported by ambulance to Cooper University Hospital, where he continued to receive treatment until he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, August 19, 2021.

The Gloucester/Camden/Salem County Medical Examiner determined the cause of Eric Ortiz’s death was Blunt Force Trauma and ruled the manner of his death a Homicide.
