Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson announced a city man has been arrested and charged in connection with an April 2016 double homicide.

Gary Johnson, 37, of the 1800 block of Filmore Street, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 23-year-old John Valerio and 25-year-old Aleshia Hill.

It is alleged Johnson fatally shot Valerio and Hill inside the couple’s home on the unit block of N. 26th Street in Camden. Police responded to the residence at approximately 1:42 p.m. on Monday, April 4th in reference to a 911 call. Both victims were pronounced deceased at the scene at approximately 2:02 p.m.

Johnson was taken into custody in Pennsauken at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 4th with assistance from the United States Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force and Pennsauken Police Department. He is being held at the Camden County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9th before Superior Court Judge Richard F. Wells.
