Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson reported a homicide in the city.

Camden County Police responded to a 9-1-1 call at approximately 4:55 a.m. on Saturday (11/5/16) to the Abblett Village Apartments, Camden in reference to a custody dispute.

While on location, officers heard a disturbance on the second floor, unrelated to the custody dispute.  Officers entered the apartment to investigate the disturbance and were met by the victim at the top of the stairs.  The victim, Tyree Kirkpatrick, 27, of Camden, had been stabbed in the chest.  Kirkpatrick was treated at the scene and transported to Cooper University Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 7:33 a.m. (11/5/16).

Patrol officers caught Darryl Townsend, 33, of Camden attempting to flee the apartment.  Townsend was arrested and charged with the murder of Tyree Kirkpatrick.  Townsend was remanded to the Camden County Jail.  He was arraigned today before Judge Edward McBride.  Bail was set at $1,000,000 full cash.
