Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson reported a Camden man is in custody for a shooting that killed one and injured another.
Juan Cabrera, M/25, of the 300 block of Beckett Street in Camden, was arrested Monday night after a brief standoff with members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force at a home on the 1000 block of 5th Street in Camden. He was charged September 5th with Murder, Aggravated Assault and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon for the August 19 killing of Maylen Colon.
Cabrera is accused of drawing a gun while participating in a fight on the 1400 block of 10th Street in Camden and fatally shooting Colon, F/31, of Camden. Another person, Jose Morales, M/26. of Camden, was also shot but survived his injuries. Cabrera is alleged to have pulled out the gun and fired after being struck with a bat during the fight.
An arraignment is scheduled for Cabrera at 2:30 p.m. in courtroom 36 of Superior Court of Camden County.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
